Her Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, Ms. Lucia Witbooi, officially launches the 3rd Call for the Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) Scholarship Programme in Gibeon on 2 July 2025.
The third call for applications under the Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) Scholarship Programme was officially launched on 2 July 2025 at a high-level event officiated by Her Excellency, the Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, Ms. Lucia Witbooi. The launch was also marked by remarks from Hon. Sanet Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, as well as the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme and the German Embassy.
This third call focuses specifically on Namibian youth from the ||Kharas and Hardap regions, following a special allocation of €1.2 million (approximately N$25 million) from the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). The funding is part of the broader commitment under the Joint Communiqué of Intent (JCoI) between the Governments of Namibia and Germany to build green hydrogen capacity through education and skills development.
The Y4H2 Scholarship Programme is coordinated and implemented by the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL), and provides fully funded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) opportunities in fields critical to the green hydrogen value chain. These include solar and wind energy systems, electrical engineering, welding and boilermaking, plumbing and pipefitting, automotive mechatronics, and business services, among others.
The application period runs from 7–18 July 2025, and a dedicated outreach campaign will take place from 7–11 July 2025, ensuring direct support and awareness activities in all 15 constituencies across the two regions.
