Windhoek, Namibia – 1 September 2026: The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) has appointed Mr. Yuri Shimwefeleni as a Project Assistant at its Regional Secretariat in Windhoek.
Mr. Shimwefeleni joins SASSCAL on 1 September 2026 and will support the implementation of activities under the PRAGMA-E Project, contributing to SASSCAL’s work in renewable energy, green hydrogen and sustainable development. In his role, he will work with local, regional and international partners under the supervision of the Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Projects Expert.
He brings experience in project coordination, sustainable energy, regional development and information and communication technology (ICT). Prior to joining SASSCAL, he served as National Coordinator for the Namibia–Germany Institutional Partnership on Quality Infrastructure for a Green Hydrogen Economy in Namibia, where he coordinated project activities and stakeholder engagement. He also worked as a Research Assistant with the H2Global Meets Africa Project in Germany, contributing to research on sustainable hydrogen markets, costs and Africa–Europe partnerships.
Mr. Shimwefeleni holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Systems, a Master of Engineering in Sustainable Chemical Engineering, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Renewable and Sustainable Energy. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry.
With his multidisciplinary background and experience, Mr. Shimwefeleni will contribute to SASSCAL’s renewable energy and green hydrogen initiatives and strengthen collaboration with partners across the region and beyond.
