As the SASSCAL 2.0 Research Programme draws to a close, the southern African research institution will conduct its mid-term technical review in South Africa. The meeting, scheduled for 4 to 6 August 2025, will be followed by the SASSCAL 2.0 Research Programme final Conference to take place towards the end of this year.
The Mid-Term Technical event will bring together Researchers, Principal Investigators, Research Institutions and students, among others. Under the second research portfolio, 13 projects and 51 sub-projects were implemented.
The meeting will therefore assess progress of the projects and subprojects, review the impact of scholarships and capacity-building initiatives on food security, agricultural productivity, and community resilience, foster regional cooperation among 24 participating institutions to develop innovative and adaptive solutions and realign strategies, work packages, and timelines for the second half of the programme.
Lined up are assessments through presentations and reports on research progress, findings, and challenges and also interactive workshops for interdisciplinary exchange and
discussions of emerging insights. Feedback and evaluation from stakeholders, including project managers and external experts, will also be used as an assessment method during the workshop.
The Midterm Technical event is an internal, mid-cycle engagement that provides a structured platform for reviewing project progress, integrating preliminary research findings, and realigning work plans. It promotes scientific exchange and operational synergy among project teams, ensuring that the programme stays on course and remains responsive to emerging insights. Ultimately, it ensures that the programme remains responsive to the evolving needs of the region and positions itself for long-term impact.
The Sasscal Governing Board, executives and staff will also participate in the event.
