The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) has successfully concluded a week-long series of monitoring and information-sharing visits to vocational training institutions participating in the Youth for Green Hydrogen (Y4H2) Scholarship Programme in southern Namibia.
The visit which started on 15 September, concluded on 17 September 2026 at the AIMS Vocational Training Centre in Stampriet, //Kharas Region, following engagements with students and management at three Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
During the week, the SASSCAL delegation visited the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) in Keetmanshoop, the Johanna Jacobs Vocational Training Centre (JJVTC) in Gibeon, and the AIMS Vocational Training Centre in Stampriet.

The monitoring visits provided SASSCAL with an opportunity to engage directly with the participating TVET institutions and students supported through the Y4H2 Scholarship Programme. The engagements focused on information sharing, monitoring the students’ progress and gaining a better understanding of their experiences under the programme.
The visits also created an important platform for students to interact with the SASSCAL team, share their experiences and provide feedback on their training journey. Through these engagements, SASSCAL was able to gain first-hand information on the implementation of the scholarship programme at institutional level and the progress being made by the beneficiaries.
The SASSCAL delegation was led by Prof. Nelago Indongo, Executive Director, accompanied by Dr. Budzanani Tacheba, Director: Science and Technology; Mr. Clive Mulumba, Director: Finance and Administration; Mr. Nikanor Nakalele, Logistics Officer; and Ms. Karen Sezuna, Finance Assistant.
Building Skills for Namibia’s Green Hydrogen Future
The Youth for Green Hydrogen Scholarship Programme plays an important role in supporting the development of skills and human capacity needed for Namibia’s growing green hydrogen sector. Through its support for students at TVET institutions, the programme contributes towards preparing young Namibians with relevant technical skills and knowledge.

Technical and vocational training is particularly important in developing the practical skills required to support emerging industries. The monitoring visits therefore provided an opportunity to assess progress while strengthening communication between SASSCAL, the participating institutions and scholarship beneficiaries.
The successful completion of the week-long visits reaffirmed SASSCAL’s commitment to supporting the next generation of skilled young people who will contribute to the development of Namibia’s green hydrogen sector.
Through continued monitoring, engagement and information sharing, SASSCAL will continue working with participating institutions and students to support the effective implementation of the Y4H2 Scholarship Programme and contribute to human capacity development in Namibia’s green hydrogen sector.
