
Mr. John Isaac Molefe has been appointed as the Programme Coordinator for the Botswana National Node, effective July 2025. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Molefe served as a Scientific Officer, a post he was appointed to in January 2022 when he joined SASSCAL. He holds a Master of Science (Environmental Science) from the University of Botswana, a Post Graduate Diploma In Education (PGDE), as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, majoring in Environmental Science and History.
Before joining the Regional Science Service Center, Mr Molefe held various positions. He started his work at the Ministry of Education, Government of Botswana, where he worked as a Teacher in 2001. Upon completing his MSc he worked for both the University of Botswana and Aqualogic Pty Ltd, where he worked as an Environmental and GIS consultant. Later on in 2006 he joined the University of Botswana where he was a lecturer in Human Geography until 2014, when he joined the EU funded project, Monitoring for Environment and Security in Africa (MESA), as a Senior Thematic Expert (Geospatial Science).
Between the years 2018-2019, Mr. Molefe was a Lecturer at Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) teaching GIS, Remote Sensing and EIA. He then moved to the private sector where he was a Director and Product Development Specialist at Space Time Explorers and Analytics, before joining SASSCAL in 2022. He is also currently a PhD candidate at the University of Botswana, focusing on the long-term reconstruction of fire regimes and land-use/land-cover changes in Northern Botswana.
By joining the management level, he will play a key role in driving climate change mitigation programmes at the Botswana National Node.
